FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 19, (Before Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M.) MAINTENANCE DEFAULTER. “ One has only to look at you. to sec that you are saturated with drink,” said Senior-sergeant Quartemain when asking for an order against Ernest Dickens, who was charged with disobedience of an Invorgargill maintenance order and with arrears to August 28 amounting to £206 11s 4d. Defendant admitted the arrears, and said that he had previously served si s months for fading to comply with the order. The Senior Sergeant said that defen dant was stopping at a hotel in Po 1 Chalmers. Defendant: I’m not stopping at an hotel. The Senior Sergeant: You can afford to stay at an hotel, but you cannot pay for the keep of your children. To His Worship defendant said that he had a job to go to. Defendant _ was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment in the Dunedin gaol, the warrant, to be suspended if he paid £1 10s a week, the first payment to be made on November 24. I Henry Richard Brett, was chargad with having entered licensed premises whilst a prohibtion order was in force against him. Constable Hayward stated he saw the defendant in a hotel on November 6. Brett was fined 40s and costs. NO PERMIT. James Caskie was charged with having removed the surface of a public footpath in Alma street wthout having obtained permission trom the St. Hilda Borough Council. Defendant stated that lie hid bad a disagreement with he town clerk, rrd consequently he left it to the b ulders to take out a permit, but on this occasion they had neglected to do so. Defendant was fined 5s and cos. s. BREACHES OF BY-LAWS. Phillip Francis Harre was fined 5s and costs (7s) for being in charge of a motor van in Crawford street without a light. Cycling on a footpath cost Hugh Gordon Paul a fine of 5s and costs t7si.
