ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS

DRAGGED ON STATION PLATFORAI. A railway porter named _ Thomas Chestnntt suffered painful injuries to his head through being dragged some distance along the platform at _ the Franktou Junction station. Ho missed his footing in boarding a moving train. DIED IN CAR. David Keefe, a well-known Maori, of Omahu, was found dead on the Tunanui road this morning. It appears that the deceased and two other Maoris left last night in a motor car, which ran over a bank, Keefe being thrown out. Keefe made no complaint in regard to injuries. The party slept beside the car, and on -waking this morning they found Keefe dead. It is .thought that deceased fractured the base of his skull. DEATH BY DROWNING. . An inquest was held to-day regarding the death of Thomas Tracey , a camp c< ok, aged sixty-eight, who fell from the wharf into the harbor on Sunday. ,A verdict of accidental death by drowning was returned. The Coroner said that Kingston, a seaman, who held deceased up till a boat arrived, was to be commended. He had acted promptly, and had ffone his best to save Tracey’s life.—Wellington Press Association telegram. SUICIDE. A married man named Archibald MMnnes, of Petone, aged thirty-seven, committed suicide this morning by cutting his throat with a razor. M'lnnes had only been in New Zealand six months. It is stated that he was suffering from a nervous breakdown as the result of war injuries. He leaves a wife and two children, aged ten and six years.—Wellington Press Association telegram.
