The Norwegian whaling ship, the C. A. Larsen, arrived at Port Chalmers this afternoon on her way from Sandefjord, Norway, to Ross Sea. She was fitted out for whaling before leaving Norway this trip, by the owners of the Sir James Clark Ross, which lately left the whaling base at- Stewart Island for Ross Sea. That vessel was accompanied by five chasers, and a similar number will go south with the C. A. Larsen, which lias called here to take in a supply of fresh water for the whaling cruise to the Antarctic. Captain 0. Ncilsen, who had charge of the Sir James Clark Ross last season, is now master of the C. A. Larsen.

Although the C. A. Larsen is a very large vessel her propelling machinery, including the boilers, which are fitted for oil fuel, is situated very near to the stern. At her bow is a huge tube, through which tho d6ad whales are hauled bodily on deck, whore special appliances are fitted for cutting up the carcase.
