THE WEEK'S PRICES The Shoppers’ Guide gives the prices ruling over the counter in the city shops to-day. There are few changes in grocery prices. Bags of sugar are 17s fid, the price per lb being Sjd. Eggs are selling at Is 6d and Is 7d; farmers’ butter is up to Is 4d. The prices in the meat shops are much the same as last week. Mutton ranges from 3|d to 8d per lb, and iamb is 11s forequarter and 12s for hinds. Other prices are:—Beef roasts, 4d to 7d; steak 4d to 10d; corned, 4d to 8d; mince, sd.
Vegetable prices are:—Cauliflowers, 6d, large size, 8d to lOd; hothouse cucumbers, Is 3d to Is 9d; lettuce, outside grown, 3d to 6d; spinach, 3d; spring cabbages, 4d to 6d; asparagus (down fid), Is fid per bunch; Hutt-grown new potatoes, fid per ib (31b for 1s 3d) ; Peninsula potatoes, 2s per lb | green peas, 10d per lb; rhubarb, 4d per Ib. Prices for fruit are:—Navel oranges, 3 for Is; 3 for Is 3dj New Zealand-grown lemons, 6 for Is; local hothouse tomatoes, 2s 9d per Ib; Rarotongan tomatoes, Is fid per Ib; bananas, 8 and 10 for Is; Fiji pines, Is to Is fid; mandarins, 10 for Is; Californian grapes, Is fid per Ib; Californian lemons, 4 for Is; cooking pears, 4d per lb. Apple prices—Summers, fid per Ib (31b for 1s 3d); Delicious, fid; Docherty, 4d. Fish is more plentiful this week, prices being:—Oysters, Is fid per pottle {next week will be the last of the season for oysters); groper, 8d per Ib; red cod, fid per Ib; ling, fid per Ib; blue cod, Is per lb; soles, 3,4, 6, and 8 for Is; flounders, t*)d per Ib; smoked blue cod, 1s 3d per Ib; smoked red cod, 4d, fid, and fid (good size fish) each; whitebait, fid per glass.
