BOARD OF DIRECTORS The monthly meeting of the board was held yesterday. As this was the first since tho annual meeting, the election of officers for the ensuing year was proceeded with, and resulted as follows-President, Mrs J.- Sutherland Ross; vice-presidents, Mrs W. B. Taverner and Mrs C. Mackie Beggj hon. treasurer, Mrs E. E. Nicolson; minute secretary, Mrs W. Stevenson, jun. Several new members were welcomed to tho board. A motion of sympathy with tho relatives of the late Miss G. A. Richards was carried. The National Board wrote that Miss Law had accepted the position of national general secretary, but could not take up her duties till March 1. Mrs Ross brought forward tho following resolution, with the suggestion that it bo sent from the association as a remit to the National Council of Women;—“ That this association wishes to draw attention to the fact that too much publicity is given in tho daily papers to the tragedics_ of domestic life, in which mothers, in a state of mental unbalance, attempt to murder their children; that this undue publicity is known to be conducive to a similar state in highly-strung women readers: 'and that the National Council of' Women ho asked to bring the matter before the Minister of Justice, who presumably cam caution magistrates and newspaper proprietors .against making public certain features oh cases hoard in the courts.” The present season of the year shows the closing of winter sports and the beginning of summer activities. Tennis and swimming have made a specially good start this year, and expert teaching available for members. This has led to an instantaneous response in membership. Tho Y.W.C.A, is again the rallying ground for the girls of the city in the development of Girls’ Day. The Otago Centre of tho N.Z.A.A.A. is promoting the formation of a ladies’ club, and the association is being used as a headquarters of the movement, with the Y.W. president as one of the vicepresidents, Miss Hall on the committee, and Miss Batt as honorary secretary. Cafeteria reported an effort in the direction of distributing information in regard to the lunch and rest room to the parents of girls coming from the country to school. A leaflet is to he prepared ami distributed among_ the parents of country girls, and it is to bo hoped this will lead to an increase in tho number for meals. Both Senior and Junior Girls’ Work Committer's are looking forward for a suitable place for a Christmas camp. The two departments are joining in a garden fete to ho held at the residence of Mrs Sutherland Ross at the end of November. The Religious Work Committee reported on arrangements for tea and a meofing for business girls to be held :n tho k .V.’.C.A. ’fall on Wednesday next, wlii'n Mrs Young, of the Gipsy Smith Mi I .don, will speak'.
