BOY AND MAN DROWNED
, TWO FATALITIES AT BLENHEIM

BLENHEIM, October 2J. A boy, seven years of age, a son of Mr Sugden Eckford, was drowned in Opawa River yesterday afternoon. He was playing on the bank, and presumably slipped and fell in. The child was missed, and a search was instituted. A man dived into the deep water and recovered the body. The body of a man discovered floating in tho Opawa River on Sunday morning has been identified as that of Frederick Smith, a farm laborerwho was supposed to have come from Biccarton (Christchurch). Ho was last seen nearly three weeks ago.
