I A concert organised by the Dunedin Community of Girl Citizens was held in tho Y.W.C.A. Hall last night, the object of the entertainment being to raise funds for the Girl Citizens’ Conference to bo held in Christchurch in January next. The performance opened with a pianoforte duet, two dancers from the ‘ Nut Cracker Suite ’ (Tschaikowsky), played by Misses Sundstrura and White, and followed an exhibition of wand drill, entitled ‘On Parade,’ by First Church girls. Recitations wore contributed by Bliss Etta Kirkwood, who recited ‘ Fairies on the Lawn,’ and Bliss Heather Smith, the latter giving ‘ Grandma at the School Entertainment ’ as her first number and ‘ The Rehearsal ’ as an encore. The vocal items included an action song, 1 Rendezvous,’ by Bliss Non! Davidson and Jean Pickard; a song, ‘Sing Joyous Bird,’ by Sirs Anderson; and a duct, * No, John, 1 by Misses West and Shepard. Mrs Renton played a violin solo. In tho second half of the programme the Invicta Choir gave ‘ Hail, Smiling Morn; a pianoforte _ duet, ‘ Slava,’ was given by Miss Clarice Colbert and Miiliccnt Rodger; Bliss Jill Fox contributed a clog dance, and Bliss Vera M’Grcgor gave an exhibition of illuminated club-swinging, Methodist Bible Class Union girls contributed a playette from ‘ Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm.’ Mrs W. jun., acting chairman of the Girls’ Work Committee, thanked the performers for their efforts. Many cx-pupils aro visiting Groyinonlh tor tho week’s functions in connection with the jubilee. Allan Edwin Bollington, an inmate_of tho Borstal Institute at Invercargill, escaped from custody at 5 o’clock last evening. The police have not the slightest clue to his whereabouts. Boilington entered the institute in March, and was serving a three years’ sentence tor breaking and entering and theft. He is eighteen years of age, oft llin m height, and has a very fair complexion. Tie was in prison garb when he escaped.
