OTAGO CENTRE ANNUAL MEETING.The annual meeting of the Otago Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association was held last night, the president (Mr 11, !i. Henderson) occupying the chair. The adoption of tho annual report ami balance-sheet (already published) was moved by the Chairman, who said that rather a quiet year had been experienced. The centre had reason to be satisfied with the results obtained by_ its team at tho New Zealand championships. It possessed champions at diving, and had quite held its own in the junior races. The centre would_ prop-, ably do ns well again this year in this class, ,and ought to be able to bold its own in ladies’ races if Otago’s two champions got into form. The Otago championships had been poorly attended, and had resulted in a loss. Tho centre would have to go into tho question or raising funds if it were to send a team to compete at tho New Zealand championships at Auckland. This was a matter which would have to be very carefully gone into by tho incoming committee. ' During the past year there had been a bit of feeling apparent, and as long as this existed swimming would not progress as well as would otherwise be tho case. The swimmers should seek to pull together, and have one united body in swimming. _ The centre was in a satisfactory financial position, cash in band amounting to £l2 3s 4d. Mr W. Jcpson seconded the motion, which was carried, after Mr Jepson had pointed out an omission in the annua! report to the effect that Miss M. Flemming had won the schoolgirls’ aggregate championship last season. The following office-bearers were elected:—President, Mr J. L, MTndoe; vice-presidents—Sir diaries Statbam, Messrs W. Pegs, W. Matthews, E. H. James, W. L. Hooper. W. 11. Sanders, 11. 11. Henderson, E. Sincock, and D. Bannatyno; secretary, Mr J. S. B. Haig; treasurer, Mr 11. H. Henderson; auditor, Mr N. Sutherland; handicapper, Mr G. B, Lewis; educational officer, Mr E. G. James; delegate to the New Zealand Swimming, Council, Mr W. H. Benson; polo referee, Mr D. Bannatyno; property steward, Mr J. L. M'lndoe; local officer, Mr D. Bannatvne.
It was resolved to attach an honorarium of £5 os for the ensuing year to the position of secretary. It* was decided to write to the City Council asking if it was possible for the centre to have its regular meeting at the baths. The first Monday in each month was fixed for tho meeting night.
