BURNSIDE STOCK SALES
FAT CATTLE DEPRECIATE. At Burnside to-day the heavier fat cattle cheapened about 30s per head and the lighter about £]. Last week there was a general advance of about £l. Prices for other stock, excepting bacon and pork pigs, wore linn. Bacon pigs wore easier by about 10s. Fat Sheep.--A penning of 1,804, including the first shorn sheep of the season. Between 400 and 500 good quality shorn wethers sold at from 29s (id to” 31s 9d for extra heavy, and at from 22s to 24s for medium. There was a good general demand throughout the sale,'with a firming tendency in places, .and the previous week’s rates were maintained. The final race iva;s considerably the dearest ot the senes. ih'iccs: Extra hoavy werheis, 42s to 455; prime heavy, 36s to 40s; light, 32s to 35s 3d; extra heavy ewes, 4fs 9d to 44s 6d; prime lighter, 31s to Lambs. —A penning _of 38. Small lot; were forward again Irom Canterbury. A good sale, prices being; Extra heavy local lambs, 42s to_4os 6d; lie-liter lambs, 35s to 38s; medium, 25s 6(1 to 31s. i .. Fat Cattle.—A good-quality yarding of 361. The proportion of heifers and cows was moderate, and a few plain steers were also in the entry. The sale opened quietly with rates 10s down, and closed with the heavier cattle down 30s and the lighter £l. Prices: Heavy bullocks, £l6 to £l7; lighter, £l2 10s to £l4 ss; best heifers, :o7 to £8 15s; lighter, £5 15s to £6 10s; best cows, £7 15s to £8 17s; medium, £o 10s to £7 10s. Store Cattle.—A yarding of 240, mainly made up of mixed young cows and heifers, but including about forty two and three-year-old steers of fair breeding. The latter were passed at auction.
