CRAWLED SIX MILES
FALLEN AIRMAN'S PLIGHT PHILADELPHIA. August 26. With a fractured skull and a broken leg, Lieutenant Cyrus Bettis, one of America’s premier airmen, crawled for six miles until be reached a house. He had been flying over mountainous country when a dense fog descended, and, losing his bearings, the machine dashed into a rock. The machine fell to earth in tho midst of a forest, and Lieutenant Bettis was knocked senseless. Recovering consciousness, ho set out to crawl downward in the hope of reaching help. After nearly a day ha was picked up by some farmers and brought to hospital. at present his condition is very precarious, tho doctors have great hopes that Ins splendid physique and great courage will pull him through.
