ALL BLACK ALLOWANCES

QUESTIONS IN PARLIAMENT [From Our Parliament ary Reporter, j WELLINGTON, September 9. According to Mr Leo (Auckland East), when the Civil Servants who were members of the All Black Rugby team got leave to tour England they were granted it on half-pay. Ho wished to know why there had been discrimination against the All Black League players in the Public Service, because ho had been advised that they were getting no allowance while with the team. He understood that the All Blacks got 4s Gd a day from the Rugby Union for out-of-pocket expenses, and that League players were paid 10s. The Prime Minister replied that he had only information regarding one case, and he would not bring the individual into it, but would call him “ Brown,” a clerk in the Post Office. This man would receive from the League authorities £4 10s a week, plus out-of-pocket expenses, while on tour, and his department, under those circumstances, did not think it would be justified in authorising half-pay. Mr Lee: My information is that ha is only receiving 10s.

Mr J. S. Dickson: 10s a day. Mr Coates: It is correct that wo have granted half-pay to Rugby Union players, who got 4s 6d, but tins man got £4 10s a week, plus out-of-pocket expenses. That is the point.
