SHIPWRECK BELIEF SOCIETY
A meeting of the executive of the. Shipwreck Relief Society was held in the board room of the secretary (Mr E. S. Wilson) yesterday afternooij; present—Messrs C. W. Chamberlain, G. L. Denniston, Edgar C. Hazlctt, W. Clarke, D. E. Theomin, J. M‘lntosh, and Captain Fraser.
Mr C. W. Chamberlain was reelected chairman for the ensuing year, Mr Denniston treasurer, and Mr Wilson secretary
Before commencing the business, tho Chairman' moved the following motion:—“That the members of this Executive Committee desire to express their very sincere sympathy with their fellow-member, Mr D. E. Theomin, on his reoent bereavement, and tneir great regret for the loss our community has sustained in the death of a highly-esteemed and valued resident, one possessed of wide sympathies and untiring energy, in the cause of charity in the fullest meaning of the word.” —Tho motion was carried in silence, members standing.
A cheque for £5, collected on board the Ulimaroa, was forwarded by Messrs Huddart, Parker, and Co.—Received with thanks.
The sum of £353 15s 5d was received from the Union Steam Ship Company. This had been collected on board the company’s vessels. —The Chairman said that he thought this was a magnificent response, as the total was for a period of about four months. Received with thanks. The treasurer was authorised to Invest £SOO in the City Corporation. The Secretary reported having received a number of acknowledgments of relief forwarded to Auckland and Tauranga.
