BLUFF DID IT. BELATED EXPLANATION. LONDON, August 25. An anonymous correspondent from Charing Cross has written to Scotland Yard saying that ho caused the death of a man at llarrogate Hotel in 1914 by bluff (says the ‘Daily News’). He entered the room, pointing a, revolver at the victim, and exclaimed: “ You’ve got to die, but I give you one chance.” He took two packets of powder from his pocket, and said: “One contains arsenic. Take your choice.” The victim made a selection, drank a glass of water containing a solution of the powder, and dropped dead. Both packets .contained chalk. Inquiries "at Harrogate confirm the details. A quantity of chalk was found on the victim's body. A post-mortem examination did not reveal an adequate cause of death.
