Tho squadron leaders and troop officers of 3rd New Zealand lime -brigade completed a useful and instructive refresher course at Burnham last Monday morning, and Captain S. MSattorthwaito and Sergeant-major (W.U.T.) W.White, N.Z.5.8., who were on the instructional staff, have returned to headquarters. Tlio area rifle meeting, to bo held on Saturday and Monday of Labor Daji week-end, is beginning _to create a goou deal of interest; various enthusiasts concerned are preparing for the event. The programme is not yet issued, but it will bo a comprehensive one, and include matches for all classes of shots. Cadet companies are keeping in mind tho forthcoming Campbell _ Statuette competition, and are preparing themselves for tho preliminary competitions, which will take place in the regimental district to decide which company will bo selected to represent the district when examined by Command Headquarters Board. Last year’s representatives (the Oamaru Cadets) are fully doterraiend that if hard work is to bo the deciding factor they will repeat their former triumphs; whijo tho town companies in Dunedin aro equally confident that they will be able to wrest from their Oamaru comrades the honor of representing the district at the final test. Sergeant-major J. Beaumont (W.0.T.), N.Z.P.S., is at present conducting a well-attended class of n.c.o.s and prospective n.c o.s of C and D Companies, 2nd Cadet Battalion (0.R.). Tho class is making steady progress, and gives promise of furnishing thoroughly efficient n.c.o.s for tho battalion next year. With reference to tho Stoneham Cup mentioned in previous notes, members of A Company, 2nd Cadet Battalion, aro reminded that points will be awarded for tidiness and behaviour on parade, and also in general work. Platoon commanders are making notes, ! and at tho conclusion of the training year will select the most effective section of their respective platoons. The four sections thus chosen will then take part in a set competition, the conditions of which will be issued shortly. _ Much interest is being shown in tho forthcoming boxing tournament which is being arranged by the 2nd Cadet Battalion. Though tho date for the tournament is not yet fixed, by the enthusiasm shown among the lads the tourney promises to bo a huge success No. 7 Platoon, B. Company, 2nd Cadet Battalion, is down to firo its .22 musketry course on Saturday, tho 21st inst., at the Drill Hall range. Lieutenant M'Cormack will ho in charge of tho squad.
