SUMATRA SHAKEN HEAVY LOSS OF LIFE 31 ANY BUILDINGS COLLAPSE. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. WELTEVREDEN, Juno 29. Advices from Padang and Fort Dckock report a heavy earthquake. Several shops collapsed, and one person was killed and two were injured. Soenbie Bocioe reports that seventeen persons are dead. Almost all the buildings in Padang collapsed, more than 10U people being killed and many wounded. '' A military dispensary chemist who felt the shock entered a room to save Ids child, and on returning was killed by a falling wall. Tlio child and its mother narrowly escaped. Solok wag severely shaken, and fifteen dead are reported.—A. and N.Z. Cable. FURTHER SHOCKS FEARED. MARKET DAY CATASTROPHE. PADANG, Juno 30. (Received July 1, at 1.30 a.m.) It is difficult to estimate the number of dead at Padang. The catastrophe happened on market day, when many from the suburbs were in town. 31oreover. many wore buried under the debris. SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ONE DEATH REPORTED. NEW YORK, June 29. A message from Santa Barbara states that one death resulted from an earthquake uhich was felt in various parts of Southern California.
