Some shipping inquiries have been received, but very little business has passed. North Island merchants can buy cheaper in Canterbury or Bleu- ; helm. . , rnl | The oats market is also lifeless. J lie ■ bulk of oats has now passed irom the farmers’ hands. Very little is being done with the North Island. The current prices to farmers are 3s 3d on trucks for A grade and 3s for B grade, j The wheat market js keeping steady. There is no demand for either milling or fowl wheat. Australian wheat is still going into the North Island, and a considerable amount of flour continues to be imported from Australia, i Millers’ prices remain unchanged as follow; Flour ClB 10 Bran 8 10 Pollard ... 9 10 Oatmeal 24 0 The potato market is very unsettled. Early in the week prices eased away, but they have again firmed up. Several inquiries have been received irom Australia, and everything points to further shipments being made. 'The yields of potatoes have been fairly heavy throughout New Zealand, and a fair quantity has already been shipped, and the market all depends upon the future bookings from Australia; but everything points to the, market keeping linn. ! The onion market is also steady. ! Canterbury-grown are .selling round ' about 16s per cwt. There is good do- I raand for pickling onions. I Business in the fruit marts has been steady during the week. Apples are still in good supply, ami prices aio reasonable. A shipment of Island oranges has arrived—roughly about 1.501) cases--ami prices are moderate.' Bananas and lemons have good inquiry, 1 and are still in short supply. Fair quantities of pears are reaching the market, and good, sound quality arc realising satisfactory prices. Cabbages me still in good supply, and prices are low. Other vegetables have good inquiry.
