Pr Wilson, a member of the Methodist Board of Temperance, declared that there was a conspiracy to import aliens into the United States to violate the liquor laws. Ho said that between 50 and 85 per cent, of tho violators were aliens. Dr Barton, of the Southern Baptist Convention, denied that Prohibition was ruining the youth of tho nation.He said: “My observation has convinced me that it is not so much the juvenile flapper as the grown-up flapper who needs attention.” Tho progress of the inquiry shows that the “ drys ” are concentrating against New York, where the State Legislature has now passed a Bill authorising a referendum. —A. and N.Z.
