THE EXHIBITION AND GOOD FRIDAY.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — In a report of the weekly meeting of tho Exhibition directorate it is stated that. Mr Arthur Barnett moved that the Exhibition bo kept open on Easter Friday, Ido not know what day “Easter Friday” is. Perhaps Mr Barnett does, and 1 presume lie means Good Friday. The whole motion is disingenuous to a degree. Presumably the thousands of young people who are paving a visit to Dunedin at that time will stay over ’Easter Monday and Easter Tuesday. What is to hinder them from visiting tho Exhibition at that time, mid why should they desecrate the most solemn day in the whole Christian year by spending it in festivities? Mr Barnett must be aw,ire that to thousands of people in Dunedin Good Friday is the very last day that should be spent in that way, and that the very fact that tbc Exhibition is open on that day will lie—-I am trying to write with moderation —a cause of deep distress to them. Air Barnctfinay not bo acting upon pecuniary impulse, but he cannot but be aware that the pecuniary profit of tho shareholders is the only visible reason why the Exhibition should be open at that time at all. f am sure I am speaking for the Anglican Church, and I feel sure that the Roman Catholics in Dunedin will look at. tho matter in, the same light. As to others I cannot speak; it is a matter for their own consciences, and not for mine.—l am. etc., E. R. Nevi ih. March 13.
