(Received March 1, at 10.Ib a.m.) Gas from the burning shaft of the Aberdaro Extended Mine blew oil the sealing device and poisonous fumes, burning tar, and clouds of smoko poured out. The manager of the mine, m attempting to block the outlet, was overcome by fumes and taken to hospital. The wall separating the Extended Mine from the A herein re Colliery lias been strengthened by a brick-and-con-crete wall, 'Poisonous fumes are thick in the workings, and several men wore overcome.
Fears are felt for the whole of the Ipswich coal district, as numerous seams extend in all directions. The Aberdaro seam can ho traced for several- miles.
