The announcement by the Government that the duty of 2s per cental is to be removed from fowl wheat as from November 1 has steadied the market. Australian wheat, without tho duty, can ho landed boro round about 7s fid per bushel. That is fowl wheat grade. It is just a question of the quantity that will be offered as to whether prices will firm up. Millers’.prices remain unchanged. They are ns follows:—Flour, £lB 10s; bran, £B' 10s; pollard. £9 10s; oatmeal, £24. The potato market has cased during Ilia week. The drop has been caused by Australia, withdrawing from the market. Shipping quotation to-day i» round about £7 ss, f.0.b., s.i., but growers are still firm holders. The local market is still in short suppliy 6f good tables, and best linos -are worth from £9 to £lO per ton. There are fair quantities of under-grade potatoes offering, but these are difficult to place. 'Good clean lines of table potatoes are j still in demand. The growers of eaqly ! potatoes report that their offerings will ho less than usual, and that they arq, fully a month late of previous seasons. The onion market has firmed up, and everything points to the nuu’ket still advancing. Japanese onions have coma forward and -been placed round about 24s per crate. Some of the lines wore not in first-class condition. American onions are offering, and Gicse are quoted round about 28s to 30s per crate of 1001 b. Business in tho fruit marts Juts been fair during the week. The Y\ ai- | kouaiti and the Manuka brought heavy 1 consignments of oranges. Some of these are in over-ripe condition, and will have to be forced on the market. Lemons are also in good supply. Apples are slow of sale. Stocks, however, are getting lotv. Vegetables have a fair demand, and cabbnges_ and cauliflowers are realising high prices. I hero iis a good inquiry for swede turnips. ■ The egg market is firm. Prices have advanced during tho week, and any lines offering are readily taken up. i Bacon and cheese are also firm in price, but there is a shortage of old matured cheese.
