MOSGIEL NOTES

The monthly meeting of the committee of the Mosgiel District High School was held on Wednesday last, the chairman (Mr J. S. Macartney) presiding. Tho bond master reported the attendance to bo still on the increase. It now stands at <‘DS in the primary ami 26 in tho secondary school. The report of Inspectors Fleming, Robertson, and Rain was most satisfactory, whilst their report on the first term of the reestablished High School was also good. Miss Dickson’s report on the physical drill was marked “ excellent ” tor each individual class. The Health Department has expressed the desire of testing the recent inoculations for diphtheria, and has already circularised all parents in respect ol tins matter. No further cases wore notified during the mouth. The boys’ football team again won the B grade competition. The head master expressed bis thanks to the Taieri Expansion League lor having promoted a picture entertainment on behalf of tho fund. Exhibition exhibits are now being prepared for tho Dunedin Exhibition. Messrs Macartney and Ruthorlord were appointed Visiting Committee for the ensuing month.
EXPANSION LEAGUE. The monthly meeting of the Taieri brunch of the Expansion League, held on Tuesday evening, was, on account of several counter-attractions, poorly attended. The Chairman (.Mr T. ler) reported that_ the - net proceeds of the picture show in aid of the school delineascope fund amounted to £4 .12s, and it was decided to make this 'amount up to £5 out of the branch s fund. The greater part of the evening was occupied in discussing railway matters, and upon the suggestion of one of the members it was decided to ask the Borough Council to meet delegates from the league at a round-tho-tahlo conference on Tuesday next, when railway matters of vital importance to the borough ill bo brought forward, with the idea of a. plan of concerted action by both the council and the league, assisted by the Otago Expansion League.
FIRE BRIGADE. The Mosgiel Fire Brigade liar, for some considerable time been in need of new equipment (especially a. hose), and, in view of the good work done by members in the past, the brigade approached the Fire Underwriters’ Association for a donation. The. association, however, declined the request, and the brigade had no other alternative than to pass the appeal on to the council for favorable consideration. In declining to come to _ the brigade’s assistance, the underwriters stated that it had been decided to reduce all fire rates in the borough from September I. METHODIST CHURCH. A musical treat was given at the anniversary concert of the Mosgiel Methodist Church on Wednesday evening, when Mr Jess White’s Concert Party, assisted by Mr Percy James, provided the entire programme. The following assisted -Mr White in bringing the concert to a successful issue; .Mrs W. Smith, Aliases M. and C. Somerville, E. - Sharpe. M. Moss, .i. Dews, A. Campbell, Messrs Geo. Currie and J. Rodgers, and Mrs P. J. Blackman and Airs Walter Haggitt were capable accompanists. THE WEATHER.
