(Received August 29/ at Ip.m.) Blackmore, in a special article cabled to the ‘ Evening Standard,’ bestows unstinted praise on Patterson and Hawkes for their victory over Johnston and Griffin. Patterson, he says, was simply magnificent on the day, and is unquestionably tho world’s greatest double player. His services outshone Tilden’s best. Patterson says that Anderson haa wholly recovered his form, and that the Australians are confident of defeating France next week. Blackmore thinks that Australia has a sporting chance of lifting the Davis Cup. Patterson told him that it was his last season in serious tennis, and that in future Australia must look to younger players.— A. and N.Z. Cable. MIXED DOUBLES CHAMPIONSHIP. NEW YORK, August 28. At the annual meeting of the Now Zealand Lawn Tennis Association the question of sending a team of young players to Australia in view of the visit of the French cracks to that country was referred to a committee.
