RAINWATER ON RAILWAYS
OUTRAN STILL CUT OFF TWO FEET SUBMERGE AT OTOKTA .Owing to water on the track, the Mosgiel-Outram trains were again unable to run to-day. It is hoped to resume on this branch on Monday morning. Just this sido of Otokia the water was 29in deep on the rails yesterday afternoon, and as a consequence, the express timed to be at Dunedin did not arrive till 6.54, whilst the mixed train from Clinton got in at 8.20, or 48min Into. There would have been even greater delay with these trains hut for the fact that they were drawn by engines with high fire-boxes. A goods train which usually reaches Dunedin about midnight was not so lucky. It had an engine with a low fire-box, and as there would have been a risk of the water getting at the furnace, its running was temporarily cancelled. It came through this morning. To-day the water at Otokia had somewhat subsided. The driver of the express from Invercargill found it just im to the middle step, or nearly -ft. He came through cautiously and safely, and reached Dunedin at 11.48, or 33min behind time.
