RIVAL FOOTBALL CODES.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —There are one or two matters Unit require to ho made dear relative to the letter of “ Fairplay ” appearing iu yesterday’s ‘ Star.’ 'The League cannot obtain the use of Tahuna Park irom the A. and P. Association because it is under "lease to the 0.R.F.U., and one of the conditions of the lease is that the Agricultural Society cannot relot to any other football code. Tbo proposed match Auckland v. Otago will not take place because the cost of erecting seating accommodation at Culling Park for one day only is out of the question. As to the Caledonian Ground, the O.R.F.U.’s lease, which expires on September .TO, will not be in use by that body for September 5 and 20. Tbo Caledonian Society wrote asking the Rugby Union to grant the society the right to lot the ground on these two dates, the society paying a percentage of the gate for the privilege. The owning society had its reasonable application turned down by the union at a meeting held on August 17. .1 understand that a further request is being made to tbs union by the Caledonian Society with an offer of £SO in order that the League may stage, on September 26, the match Queensland v. Otago —visits of a kind that should bo encourarrod by all citizens in view of publicity benefit to the Now Zealand and South Seas .International Exhibition. It would bo impossible to play this match any later than September 26, as the Queensland team Ims to return to Australia from Wellington on October 2, and the next boat available sails on October 17, dolin' to which date would not be considered. 1 would add .that the Canterbury v. Otago fixture will bo held on ihe' Caledonian Ground, on the first Saturday in October, and Hie following Saturday the pick of Christian Brothers Club wiil meet the Marist League loam from Christchurch. It is regretted that t luese games are so late in the season, hut the public already knows ■why. 1. may say that this will not occur again. League” is well entrenched in Otago, as next season will reveal. —1 am, etc.., 11. Divers. August 29.
