HEAVY PENALTIES [Pun United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, August 20. _ Early last evening motor tralllc m the Ngahauranga Gorge was blocked for a time by three largo motor lorries, which were proceeding to Wellington from Palmerston North. A complaint was made to the constable at Jolmsoiiville, who, on the arrival of the lorries there, arrested Stephen HavclL Kenneth Haveli, and Johnston iValton, the drivers, who wore intoxicated, in the Police Court this morning, the magistrate (Mr W 7. G. Riddell) said the matter could not bo overlooked, and that the penalty would have to bo increased, as cases of this sort were coming before the court every day. For drunkenness ho fined Stephen Haveli and Walton £2O each, and sentenced Kenneth Haveli to seven days’ imprisonment. On charges of assaulting the constable His Worship fined each defendant £3. Kenneth Havoll’s license was suspended for three months, and the others for one month.
