Tho enemy are resisting at certain points, hut they are unable seriously to oppose the advance of four French columns. Nevertheless, the operations are merely a. curtainraiser to the main offensive, which will begin at the end of tho month, when Marshal Petain returns. Meanwhile the French aim is to dislodge the Rill's from their trading posts to safeguard file communications with Algeria, and also politically to influence the neighboring tribes. Marshal Petain has gone to Morocco alter conferring with M. Painlevo, who made a statement that everything was being arranged with a view to taking tho offensive with tlie utmost speed and efficiency and a minimum of bloodshed.—Reuter. ENEMY FALLING BACK. PARIS, August 19. As a result of this first leap forward tho enemy are falling back northwards, pursued by aeroplanes, according to a message from Fob, referring to the dual operations. Some of tho tribesmen have unconditionally surrendered.—Renter.
