CAVERSHAM RATEPAYERS

MEETING OF ASSOCIATION A meeting of the members of Dio Caversham Ratepayers and Householders’ Association was held last evening, and about thirty attended. Among Dio audience "ere throe city councillors. The following motions were carried :

“That a deputation wait on Dio chief postmaster, Dunedin, and point out the inadequacy of postal arrangements on Die Main South road, and suggest the advisability of choosing a new silo on Dio main road lor a post office for the district.”

“That a deputation wait on Die Tramways Committee of the City Council, and place the matter of a double new lino over the lull before it.” “That the secretary write to tho Drainage Board calling attention to the offensive smells which came from tho sewers running through Caversham.” The following Ladies’ Committee was appointed:—Mesdames W. Anderson, J. C. White, M'Connell, Sexton, Briggs, Carey, Clarkson, N. Robertson, P. Cairns, and Miss Fisher. Reference was also made to dangerous places on the tram route (the bend on the stiff grade near the cemetery and the rise at the terminus), to tho condition of certain streets and the park. Cr J. Wilson said that Caversham and tho Glen each had had a shelter shod, which had been taken away because of tho damage done to them. Regarding permanent asphalt work, probably sufficient could be transferred from the Cargill road allocations for the Caversham portion of the Alain road.

Cr W. A. Scott said that it was agered that Dio tramways matter would go on the allocations next year. Cr MacManus said that Cavonliam would have a tramway shelter shod. It would be allowed for in next year’s allocations. Continuing, lie laid tho blame for tho smells from tho drains in Caversham upon Green Island, ns the people of that district had failed to join in the drainage area. Consequently Kaikorai’s drainage went through tho old tunnel.
