There was good general competition for all lines showing quality, and prices were on a par with the week’s best rates. Competition for clips broad in quality or indifferently prepared for the market showed slight irregularity, and sold in buyers’ favor. Good clearances wore effected. Greasy merino sold to 28fd.

TALLOW MARKET. LONDON, August 12. At the tallow sales 908 casks were offered, of which 529 were sold at late rates to an advance of 6d. Prices: Mutton, 49s to 45s 6d; beef, 49s to 45s fid.—A. and N.Z. Cable. RUBBER STOCKS. LONDON, August 12. The stocks of rubber Held in London comprise 4,554 tons.—A. and N.Z. Cable. UNITED STARR-BOWK FIT SOCIETY. A meeting of members of the United Starr-Bowkott Building Society was held in the office of J. W. Smeatnn and Co. last evening to dispose of £2,000. Mr E. A. Rosevear (chairman of directors) stated that a further £4,000 would ho disposed-of this month, including £I,OOO in No. 9 group. As there were only fifty shares not taken up in this group, those wishing to join should not delay. A ballot was then held for the Doth appropriation in No. 6 group, cluster No. 241 being drawn, held by one member. A sale was held for the 36th appropriation in No. 6 group, which resulted ns follows:—£500 at £3l and £4l. A ballot was then held for the 12th appropriation in No. 8 group, cluster No. 57 being drawn, held by one member. A sale for the 13th appropriation in No. 3 group resulted as follows: £SOO at £45.
