A minor collision occurred at Frankton on Wednesday night, when an engine driving six loaded cattle trucks ran into a locomotive standing on the main line. Three trucks were derailed and badly smashed. Three bullocks were killed. The wreckage was soon cleared. There was no hold up of the train service. The election of directors of the Now Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company, which occasioned great interest on account of allegations against and aspersions cast on the management, resulted in the return of all the old directors by overwhelming majorities.— Hamilton message. A Press Association message from Wellington records that the total births registered for the urban areas in July amounted to 1,05(5 as against 1,011 in June, an increase of 45. Mr R. H. Todd presided at, the mnnthlv meeting of tlie Cavcrsham School Committee on Monday evening. The head master reported that the roll now stood at 677, the second highest in Dunedin, whilst the average attendance was 603. With regard to diphtheria, the position was steadily improving, only one case haring occurred in the last month, iho absences from school are now: Cases six, carriers four, and contacts four: total, fourteen. The savings hank deposits amounted to £74 Is Id, and the withdrawals to £3 16s 10. The girls of Standards V. and VI. propose holding a jnrnhlo sale for the purpose of purchasing records for the school gramophone. Ivirkham (who is leaving Dunedin lo take a position in Auckland’), and presented him with two pipes as a small token of the esteem in which he was held by his fellow-com-mitteemen.

The meeting opened in mourning, awl deep regret was expressed a-t the loss nf two respected mouthers last week. P.D.G.R. Bro. C. C. Bobertson and 8.C.8-. Bro. H. Williamson, tho court’s representatives at the diamond iubileo of Court Bruce at Milton last week, reported on the celebrations, and Bros. W. J. Duncan and 0. S. Hawes reported on tho diamond jubilee ball of Court Bruce. The district secretary and Bro. D. Boadlo also reported on the celebrations at Milton. P. 0.8. Bro. J. Abbott, trustee, reported on tho action of the truseos re the purchase of a, hall, and tho same was approved. Ono new member was admitted, and the nominations of two candidates were, approved of. At the close of the meeting Mr C. B. Bnrrowclmigh explained the rules of , tho proposed society, to be formed entirely amongst the members of the court. It was unanimously resolved to incorporate as a society under tho name of tho Pride of the Leith Foresters’ Hall Society, Incorporated, and application will' be made for registration of same immediately. A strong committee of twenty members was elected, from which tho officers will ho elected. Tho wlyfle scheme was taken up with great enthusiasm by all members.
