P. AND T. REUNION

The annual reunion mid ,smoke concert of the Dunedin Post and Telegraph Officers’ Association was hold in Kroon’s Hall on Saturday evening. Among those present were Mr F. W. Penlington (Chief Postmaster at Dunedin), Mr W. Ingram (departmental auditor), and Mr P. Murphy, of the parcels branch, who was recently transferred from Wellington. Mr AV. J. Gladding occupied the chair. Every branch of the department was well represented. An excellent musical programme was provided, items being rendered by Messrs A. Snell, J. Paterson, H. Guyton, and A. Micliie. Selections were also provided by a jazz band, and an exhibition of conjuring and sleight-of-hand tricks was given by Messrs Greenwood and Grounds. After the loyal toast had been honored Mr W. Easton proposed the toast of the department, to which -the Chief P.ostmaster replied. Mr Penlington commented on the rapid growth of the Post and Telegraph Department's activities since he commenced many years ago as a messenger. The duties of the department. ho said, had increased from the handling of mails only to the collection of almost every tax in the country, .except perhaps Urn dog tax. Mr AV. .1. Gladding proposed tho toast to the visitors, and Messrs Ingram and Murphy responded, and thanked the chairman for the invitation to be present.
