RAVENSBOURNE AMENITIES SOCIETY

ANNUAL MEETING. Tho third annual meeting of the RaTcnsbourne Amonities Society was held in tho Town Hall on Thursday night, Mr H. E. Mollor presiding over a fairly largo attendance. The Chairman said that the society had carried out improvements in the borough which were unequalled anywhere in and about Dunedin, and they had not cost the West Harbor Council one penny. Mr Moller also paid a tribute to the energetic secretary, Mr E. Mitchell. A fine example of the society’s work was shown in the three zig-zags which had previously been an eyesore to the district, but which were now well trimmed and kept in order. Mr A. H. Williamson (chairman of committee), in moving the adoption of the annual report, said that a number of trees between the railway station and tho post office would shortly bo cut down, and the society expected that there would be considerable criticism over this matter. However, it should not be forgotten that some consideration should bo given to motorists, and as the main road was a narrow one, tho trees caused a danger at corners, as accidents might occur if tho view were obstructed. Tho society had tho co-operation of tho West Harbor Borough Council in everything that it did for tho improvement of the district. In addition, the society also had the assistance of Mr D. Tannock (superintendent of reserves), who, although a busy man, had spared the timo to visit Bavonsbourne to inspect trees which tho society intended to trim. Thus they would see that no trees were cut down or trimmed without careful consideration. A matter for congratulation was that the money raised by Ilaveusbourno residents on Poppy Day would bo spent in the district. Through the courtesy of tho Dunedin Returned Soldiers’ Association and tho Dunedin Amenities Society the work in connection with tho plantation on tho side of tho main road would bo carried out by returned w«diers, under the supervision of Mr Tannock. As a result of this courtesy the district and unemployed ex-soldiors would both benefit. 'Mr F. Mitchell seconded the motion, which was carried. Tho election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mr H. E. Moller; vice-presidents—Messrs A. Bathgate, W. R. Don, and T. Ross; chairman of committee, Mr A. H.
