DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING.

The thirty-seventh annual meeting of the Dunedin Defence Rifle Club was held last evening. Mr G. C. Proudfoot jiresidcd over a good attendance of members.

The annual report stated that the past year had been a successful one. The'season had been favorable. Owing to the epidemic of infantile paralysis, the Defence Department used the range less than usual. Eleven new members joined during the year. The club was still in a position to supply ammunition to members at 5s per 100. The Chairman said that as ho was making his last appearance as an official of the club bo wished to thank members for the assistance given during bis term as president. In regard to the financial position, the club bad owing to it at the nod of the season debts to the extent of £2l for mem bars’ subscriptions and ammunition, all being good money. The club was in a good financial position. The treasurer was one of those good-natured men who was always dipping his hand in his pocket. Ho' however, should not be called upon to root the bill. Tire club bad had some extra expense in the way of purchasing a new target, etc. The committee would have to be more careful in watching the expenses in connection with the marking during the coining season. It was proposed to have prize fixing for A and B grade teams during the season. Mr J. T. Gillan,. in proposing the adoption of the report, said the secretary was to be complimented on submitting such a comprehensive report. The club was very fortunate in having such a good man at the holm. The motion was seconded by Rifleman Mackio and carried. The Chairman said that the club was to be congratulated on the year’s operations. Ho stated that members would have an opportunity of going through a musketry course, and if they qualified they would be entitled to a supply of ammunition. Mr Gillan and several other members referred to the splendid service rendered to the club and rifle shooting in Otago by the late president (Mr G. C. ProucTfoot). Ho had set a very high standard, and it was to tic hoped that the club would continue to live up to that standard.

The following office-bearers wore elected;—Hon. president, Mr J. Shaw; bon. vice-president, Mr C. Speight; president, Mr W. Rannorman; vicepresident, Mr J. T. Gillau; treasurer, Mr R. Greenslade; secretary, Mr I). M Logan: General Committee —Messrs W. A. Graham, 0. Miller, D. Murray; Shooting Committee —Messrs W. Bannermau. A. Dippio, and R. Mackic. Mr ProudJ'oot was elected a life member of the club.
