MEETING OF DIRECTORS The weekly meeting of the directors °f tho New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition Company was held last night, and was attended by Messrs J, Sutherland Ross (chairman), O. Speight, P. L. Halstcd, O; Todd, A. Barnett, H. L. Taploy, T. Somerville, W. R. Hayward, and H. F. Sincocfc. The tender of -Mof/rs Fletcher and Love for tho supply of 200 tables for the tea room at £1 each was accepted. EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE. The Executive Committee reported that it had decided to insure tho fire station, fittings, etc., for £3OO, The Education Executive had asked that the company undertake to erect a division wall round the court and partition oft tho lecture hall and certain other partitions. The matter had been loft in the hands of the general paanager to negotiate details, with power to act. A letter received from the Otago Labor Council agreeing to draft Labor legislation in connection with the Exhibition had been received with satisfaction. A suggestion by the chairman of the Photographic Sub-commit-tee that a prize plaque be offered for an Australasian pliotographic competition had been referred to tho Fine Arts Committee with an expression of approval of tho suggestion. A letter had been received stating that Mr Marsh had accepted the office of director of lino arts and had taken passage by the Ruahine. A letter from Air Lovell Smith, Christchurch, suggesting that an old Cobb coach be shown in tho motor section to emphasise the distinction between locomotion of the sixty’s and tho present day had been referred to the general manager. The suggestion that an old coach he procured met with a good deal of favor, and the opinion was expressed tha t it would ho a good idea to endeavor to get other samples of tho early means of locomotion, such as bullock drays. A suggestion by Air Todd that an effort should be made to get a- few samples of No. 1 motor cars made in England was approved. It w r as stated that there were a good many samples of such cars in existence.

The report was adopted. WORKS COMMITTEE.

The Works Committee reported that it had received a report from the gene* ral manager that tho president, Air Tapley, and ho had interviewed the city engineer with reference to the question of the removal of the spoil from the new Opoho channel, which bad been dumped on the site of the goods shod, and that Air Alexander was going into Iho matter of removal of the spoil and the cost of same. The cct had reported that one of Iho water mains had burst during tho week-end, and that water for fireprevention purposes was not available. Tho general manager and the architect had. been authorised to arrange for a supply of water for firc-provention purposes being made available. The report was adopted. HOUSING EXECUTIVE.

The Housing Executive Committee reported that in view of the great numbers of motor cars that were sure fo bo in Dunedin, some provision should be made for a large garage, and that the matter bo referred to the directors for consideration. Tho private house accommodation to data was sufficient for 2,574 people. It had been-resolved that a charge of 10s each party bo made to people whoso houses had been exchanged, and that no liability bo assumed regarding inventory of furniture, etc. The executive suggested February 0 as the most suitable date for a golf tournament. It was decided to communicate with the Alette Garage Association with a view -to finding out what accommodation could be provided for cars. It was decided that Messrs Hainsworth, Spence, Colville, and Barron shonh: makq inquiries regarding conferon-His and other ’gatherings to bo held in Dunedin daring the period of the Exhibition.

11GRTKTI HU 1?AL COMMITTEE. The Horticultural Committee reported that a donation of veronica shrubs .had been received from Mr Hart. The test of one of the lagoons with water had been fairly satisfactory, but some further puddling of the clay would bo necessary. A supply of water for tho fornory had been arranged to bo laid on. Tho Amenities Society had started to plant tho border ami shrubs on the south-west corner of tho park outsido tho Exhibition Company’s fence. It laid been arranged to have ramps formed at the side of the sports ground. Tho report was adopted. WOMEN’S SECTION.

Tho Organising Secretary of tho Women’s Section reported that tho Applied Art Committee had charge of a most interesting branch ol tho permanent display section. Women as designers, patclnvorkcrs, and toy makers were entering exhibits under this section. The Spectacular Dance Committee had arrangements well in band I for a dance festival in aid of tho funds | of this section. The tentative date for | the dance was September 25, or as soon as the festival hall was ready. The committee on tho planning and designing of tho section had discussed the general lay-out of tho section. Nothing definite could bo decided, however, until the location of the section had been definitely allocated. Members of tho Housing Committee were busy visiting the private homes which had registered at the bureau. 4 largo number of good homes would bo available if sonic assistance could be given in tbe matter of equipment. The Permanent Display Committee had decided to continue e(forts to interest craftswomcn in Australia as > well as Now Zealand. Tho Loan Section Committee had now many offers of most interesting exhibits from women who were the "happy possessors of articles that were not only antique, but were of historical value.
