EXHIBITION SUMMER SHOW

—. SUBSTANTIAL SUPPORT ASSURED ARRANGEMENTS WELL FORWARD The monthly meeting of the committee of the Otago A. and P. Society was held this morning, those present being Messrs George Black (president, in the chair), R. Edio, J. Sim, A. King, A. Johnson, T. J. Gawn, J. Nimmo, J. Gow, T. Scott, A. Mackay, E. M. North, J. W. Blair, D. Andrew, R. A. S. Cantrell, E. C. Hazlett, H. C. Campbell, James Begg, J. Macandrew, 11. Price, H. Turner, and W. Robertson. The executive reported that it had held a conference with the directors of the Exhibition to consider the Summer Show dates. After a very full discussion it was decided to adhere to the present dates—namely, November 18 and 19—and the executive had the assurance that the society would receive the hearty co-operation and assistance of the Exhibition' Company in furthering the interests of the show. A further suggestion was received to extend, the date one day, making the People’s Day Friday. This proposal could not be en tertained, as the society depended on the support of the retailers, and the committee would make no fixture which would in any way interfere with the retailors’ late shopping night. MEMENTO* OF SHOW. Messrs Moller and Sons submitted a design of a metal plaque, suitably engraved and mounted on wood,_ ns a special memento of the Exhibition Show. The offer was accepted, and instructions given to order a sufficient number to present one to each exhibitor gaining the championship_ in the sheep, cattle, and horse breeding sections, and one for the champion gelding, harness horse, and saddle horse. SUPPORT ASSURED'. The President, in moving the adoption of the report, stated that the date of the show was now doufiitely _ fixed, and the directors of the Exhibition fully realised the position, and were prepared to extend their hearty support. An invitation had been sent to His Excellency the Governor to attend on the afternoon of the People’s Day. and had been accepted provided that it did not interfere with any fixtures already made. The motion was seconded by Air E. C. Haalett, and carried. Mr H. 0. Campbell moved the adoption of the Finance Committee’s report recommending payment of accounts amounting to £133 11s 7d, as detailed in the accounts register.

IMPROVEMENTS AT TAHT7NA,

The Grounds Committee reported that at the request of the St. Kilda Borough Council permission had been granted to set back the fence Bft at the top end of the park, where it was a danger to both passenger and vehicular traffic. The permission granted did not interfere with the society’s arrangements, and was granted during the pleasure of the society. Instructions had been given to repair the boundary fence, and the work was now progressing. The committee was in communication with the Otago Rugby Football Union in reference to the topdressing of the judging ring. A number of the sheep pens, cattle stalls, and horse boxes required attention, and these would bo carefully overhauled in anticipation of receiving an increased number of entries at the Exhibition Summer Show. . Air H. Turner, in moving the adoption of the report, stated that it dealt with all matters that required immediate attention. , The motion was seconded by iur James Begg, and carried. RAILWAY FACILITIES.

Tito President brought up the question of running special_ trains, and pointed out that any facilities given for the quick, despatch of stock in many instances influenced breeders to exhibit. Mr Black stated that the society was fortunate in having a district traffic manager who was at all times prepared to assist the committee, and who recognised the importance of despatch in transit of show stock. MrH. P. West had already agreed to run a, special train from the north on Tuesday, November 17, arriving in Dunedin about 5 p.m., and was prepared to consider favorably running a similar train from the south on the same day, arriving about 6 p.m., conditionally that sufficient stock was offering io justify a special train. It was decided that the question or train services be left in the hands of the executive, with a. recommendation that a special effort he made to ensure /.ill show stock beiyig conveyed ns promptly as possible. SPECIAL PRIZES. The following special prizes were offered for competition, and the secretary was instructed to convey to each contributor the committee's appreciation of his support and interest: —Dunedin Jockey Club, £SO; Forbnry Park Trotting Club, £lO 10s; Dunedin Dairymen’s Association, £8; Perpetual Trustees, Estate, and Agency Company, Ltd., £5 ss; Law Courts Hotel, £2 2s; Provincial Hotel, £5 ss; David Murray, £5 ss; Hon. D. T. Fleming, £2 2s; Mrs W. D. Stewart (refund of judge’s expenses), £T Is; Milbnrn Lime and Cement Company, Ltd., six tons of lime; two members of the Otago Hunt Club, each a silver cup valued at £5 ss: D. W. Johnstone and Sons, enp valued £lO 10a; Briscoe and Co., trophy valued £8 3s ; Master Butchers’ Association, £5 ss. SHOW OF HORSES. The Clydesdale Horse Society -wrote advising t hat Messrs James Gow, J. W. Blair, mid J. A. Johnstonc_ were appointed a committee to act in connection with the competition for Messrs Wright, Stephenson’s challenge cup, and advised the committee _ that the council would assist in scouring entries for the forthcoming Summer Show. Mr Thomas Logan wrote in reference to the inspection of stallions, and suggested that it should bo hold the day previous to the parade.—The letter was referred to the Horse Committee to act. MISCELLANEOUS. An exhibitor from Christchurch wrote asking if any arrangements could be made for the providing of accommodation at the show for attendants of stock. The committee considered that the question was an important one, and should, receive careful consideration, and suggested that the matter be referred to the executive and the Grounds Committee to make inuiries-—Alter several members had expressed their opinions the suggestion was agreed to. The committee approved of granting the women’s section of the Exhibition and also the Otago Home Economics Association the free use of show cases and the wire netting stands to Mrs Maoassey, on rendition that the.se are returned in good order.
