'MARITANA'
On July 28, at His Majesty’s Theatre, Vincent Wallace’s opera ‘ Marita ua ’ will be produced by the Leech Lyric Club Choir. It is many years sineb this work was first presented to the Dunedin musical public. The earliest performance was away back in 1874, and several times since that date ‘ Montana ’ lias been produced. The operafc has always been a firm favorite with theatregoers. The older generation will bo able to revive past memories next Tuesday evening. Miss Meda Paine’s Maritana should bear comparison with some of the best sopranos of the part. Mr Arnold Perry’s fine tenor will bo quite equal to the part of Don CiOsar, and Don Jose will be sung by Mr L. A. North. Lazarillo will be sung by Miss Mildred Gill ions, and Mr Walter Mitchell as the king and captain will have ample scope to display his baritone voice. The chorus work will be sung by the Lyric Choir, and the. production will have tho support of an efficient orchestra under the leadership of Mr J. A. Wallace. Tho production will be under the direction of Mr John T. Leech. Day sales arc at Begg’s, and iho box plan opens at The Bristol on Friday.
