OTAGO BOARD MEETS

air Jasper Clark presided at jesterday’s monthly meeting of the Otago Electric Power Board.

The manager and engineer (air A. P. Aldridge) was appointed as the board’s delegate at the forthcoming conference of power boards, and also at the conference of power board engineers.

Accounts totalling £7,892 9b were passed for payment. The report of the engineer and manager said that 609 poles had been erected in the Balclutha and Palmerston districts, whore the work of reticulation was ranking good progress. Some twenty-four men were at present employed on construction and store work, and it was intended to start two more gangs, o)io in each district, during the current week, so that this work could he speeded up. The store buildings had now been wired for lighting and testing purposes in accordance with the requirements, and a special rate obtained from the city for the supply of power. An agreement bad been reached with Mr J. Butler, covering the erection of main transmission lines. No further progress had been made with the city agreement. The city ollicinls were making arrangements for the finalising of the agreement, and hoped to have the matter fixed up at an early date. A total of 760 applications for supply had been received to date, 100 of these having becit submitted hy independent firms. The applications received included 480 from the southern area and 280 from the northern area. The question of installing a stand-by plant was being investigated, and he hoped to bo in a position to report at the next meeting of the board.
