CANTERBURY COURT
MEETING WITH DUNEDIN DIRECTORS [Special to the ‘ Stab.’] CJIRLSTcITuROH. April 27. On Friday representatives of tlio Christchurch Committee .set up in connection witli the Dunedin Exhibition met Messrs Hayward and Hainsworth, who explained the progress of the project. Mr N. Machin said, with reference to the Canterbury court, that the biggest hitch at the moment was how to secure the sinews of way from local authorities. There was. also just a, little doubt as to whether the Christchurch committee would be able to get the- services of Mr P. R. Climie, who was closely in touch with local bodies. A list of contributions had been prepared on the basis of Is for every £I,OOO of capital value, ranging from a contribution of 56s from the smallest body to £1,027 from the largest. Everything depended on the reception given to the request for funds by the largest body, the Christchurch City Council. It was felt that there whs no' use approaching the council till after the elections. If the council agreed, a number of other local bodies would follow suit. South Canterbury and Ashburton appeared to havetaken up the question of their representation at the Exhibition very thoroughly, and to have had little ditliculty in getting (heir finance assured. This, he thought, should be a. big lever in convincing the local bodies in North Canterbury.
