ASSESSMENTS FOR OTAGO COURT

HARBOR BOARD AGREES TO PAY £250 .Correspondence was read at the meeting of the Harbor Board on .Friday night with respect to the Otago Court at tho New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition. Tho Chairman (Mr Id. Larnnch) mentioned that lie had been out of town, and-had been -unable--to• arrange for-a representative of tho board to bo present at the meeting of local bodies the other day in respect to the Otago Court. Mr H. E. Metier said tho outcome of Hie meeting was that assessments had been made for each local body. The contribution of the .Harbor Board was fixed at £250. Mr J. M. Dickson, M.P., said ho would like to know who fixed the charges. Mr Ramsay (facetiously): The Citizens’ League. Mr Dickson went on to say he did not think the charges were .fairly fixed. It did not seem to bo in proportion that, while one of the counties had to pay z£soo, the Dunedin City Corporation was called on for only £2,000. Mr J. Loudon said the amount had been fixed arbitrarily, and on very fair linos. Mr Mollor said bo hoped the board would pass its assessment. If it didn’t, it would be setting a bad example. The Finance Act allowed them to expend money in this way. On the motion of Mr J. M'Donnld, it was decided to agree to the assessment of £250. It was decided to exhibit a model of Otago Harbor in the Otago Court, and to ask the engineer if ho could suggest any other suitable exhibits.
