RAILWAY DEVIATION
HARBOR BOARD LAND WANTED —if At the meeting of the Otago Harbor Board on Friday night the following report was submitted by a sub-committee in respect to the additional land required by the Government railways for the deviation of the Port Chalmers-Dunedin lino;— “ With respect to the application of the New Zealand Railways for additional land, the committee has given this matter very careful consideration, and is of the opinion that the Railway Department should reimburse the board for the land required. Plan No. 2,113 shows 1 rood 3 poles required from the Railway Department to widen the highway, 2 roods 25 poles of which is made useless to the board by reason of the construction of the oveihead bridge and highway. In addition to this, there is a small sector which will be lost to the board by reason of the eastern ramp (another sector will be required to give road access from Wickliffe street to Ward street). The committee recommends that the portion rendered useless to the board be treated as a set-off against the other portion, and that the department be charged a certain figure for’ what it requires, and, further, that the department bo required to bear any cost of strengthening the Frederick street sewer, which runs under the sector it requires. The report was adopted without discussion. . In connection with this matter the district railway engineer forwarded a plan of the alignment and section of the connection at Palmer’s siding to the new double line.
