Herriot stated that the, Conseil d’Etat, which was the supreme tribunal of administrative law was of the opinion that the hiancoVatican concordat of_ 1801, _which was denounced hy France in 1905, still applied to Alsace and Lorraine, where it was enforced by Germany after the war of 1871. | If the Government accepted that ruling ' the concordat would continue to be applied there. The Opposition is expected to make the most of the dilemma in which the ruling places 31. Herriot, who is now faced with the paradoxical policy of withdrawing all France’s Vatican representatives and appointing a special representative for Alsace and Lorraine.— Reuter.
