CROSS-BRED WOOL
TOO HUGH ROMNEY. BRITISH MANUFACTURERS OBJECT. [Feu United .Pit ess Association.] WELLINGTON, December 10. Mr C. V. Pearce, the well-known sheep breeder, of Kakaramea, who has just retunned from an extensive tour through tho wool manufacturing centres of Eng-' land, states that lie was surprised to find the strong exception which was taken by nearly all British manufacturers to tho increapo in the amount of Romney bred wool in New Zealand cross-breds. After reviewing the manufacturers’ objections to this class of wool, and suggesting remedies, Mr Pearce says: ‘‘l think we shall have to look to a Leicester and Lincoln cross to make our wool mors suitable for Bradford manufacturers. It is a wellknown fact that fifteen or twenty years ago the basis of the ewo flocks in New Zealand was tho Lincoln and tho Leicester, and manufacturers in Bradford say that when first crossed with Romney New Zealand wool was more suitable to their (purpose than it is now, when almost wholly Romney."
