(Received December 10, at 10.30 a.m.) The death sentence imposed on Modi Doran was commuted to imprisonment for life. [On October 11, on the steamer Trewoiias, a fireman named John Jacob, a West African, was stabbed to death on the forecastle deck by a member of the Indian crow named Modi Doran. Ihe latter was immediately placed fin irons, and handed over to tho police on the ship’s arrival at Newcastle. He was later charged with murder. The two men had boon working together as greaser and fireman Once tho beginning of the voyage.]
