Wednesday, December 10. (Before Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M.) BY-LAWS BROKEN. George Josiah Caldor was charged with failing to notify a change of ownership of a motor car. Defendant pleaded guilty, and was fined ss, with costs (7s). Alfred Charles Daniel was charged with failing to drive a motor car as near ns practicable to tho left side of the road when turning into Stuart street from Cumberland street. Defendant did not appear, and, after hearing Constable M’Laren, the magistrate imposed a fine of 10s, with costs (17s). MAINTENANCE. Daisy Blanche Edwards proceeded against John Edwards with a complaint for maintenance of her thirtcen-ycar-old daughter. The evidence was that complainant was divorced from her husband, who was now in Perth, Western Australia. There was one child, for the maintenance of whom 12s 5d per week had ben paid up till June 10 of this year. Since then nothing had been paid. Defendant was making £7 per week as a carpenter. Wilfred Grimsdale, land salesman, who collected rent for Edwards of a house in Clarendon street, said that he had a verbal instruction to pay 12s 6d of that rent each week to Mrs Edwards. He made the last payment on June 10. No rent had boon paid since May 26, and in October he handed the papers over to John lleid and Sons. Tho late tenants of the house had been evicted. A provisional order for maintenance was made, the amount being fixed at 20s per week, with £25 past maintenance, and solicitor’s fee (£3 3s).
