HANDEL'S ‘MESSIAH'
It may not be possible to explain why, but- nevertheless it is true that many associate Christinas time with a performance of Handel’s ‘ Messiah.’ This is very true as regards Dunedin. For many years past the Dunedin Choral Society's rendition of this masterpiece in oratorio has been looked forward to with keen interest. Tills is a tribute to the wonderful composition, both as regards words and music. The great solos, thrilling choruses, and clever orchestral writing appeal to thousands, 'Phis year the Choral Society will give the ‘ Messiah * th His Majesty's Theatre on Tuesday and Wednesday, December 16 and 17, at 7.T5 p.m. The soloists are Airs Astley Black (soprano), Airs Wilfred Andrews, late of Dunedin, but now of Wellington (contralto), Air Ernest Drake (tenor), and Air P. Sutherland (bass). Those who hoard Air Sutherland in 'Samson ’ last week will he pleased to hear him again in oratorio. The tenors and bassos of the chorus will bo again balanced by kind assistance of members of the Dunedin Male Choir. Two good performances are confidently anticipated.
