“SI NKING—RIPPLE”
MESSAGE FOUND OH BEACH. BELIEVED TO BE GENUINE. (Pek United Press Association.] WAIROA, September 3. Captain Knight, harbor master, this morning found on the beach at Wairoa Heads what is considered to bo a genuine message from the ill-fated Ripple. It is contained in a 41b tin, with a close-fitting lid. (An, the lid is scratched in largo letters: “Look inside.” The letters are somewhat rusty, and tho tin has evidently been in the water some time. Opening it, Captain Knight found a wet advertising leaflet, after drying which ho made out the words; “ In boat with sail, sinking—Ripple.” The rest of the message is undecipherable. It is written in a scrawling hand. _ The message is being sent to the Richardson Company, Napier. Captain Kniglit behoves it to be genuine.
