DEPRESSION IN NORTH OF ENGLAND. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, September 1. _ A shrinkage in exports is having serious effects in the iron and steel trade and the coalmining industry. Numerous North Country collieries are closing down, and the position is said to be the worst for forty years. A number ot steel works are also closing at Barrow, Middlesbrough, and elsewhere. An indication of the difficulties in Use iron and steel trade is given by the fall in the shares of a firm which is calling up the final 8s a share on 1,860,900 ordinary £1 shares, which were recently selling at Is 6d. They have now fallen, and holders are now willing to pay 2s to anyone who will bear liability for the 8s call. —A. and N.Z. Cable.
