ATTACKED BY A SOCIALIST

TOKIO, September 1. General Fukuda was this evening unsuccessfully attacked by a Socialist, who was arrested on tim spot. General Fukuda was commander of the Tokio garrison at the time of Osugi’s arrest last year, and his assailant is declared to be a follower of Osugi.—A. and N.Z. Cable. (Received September 3, at 1.20 a.m.) 1 General Fukuda’s assailant (Kyutaro Wada) declared that he intended to kill the general in revenge for the death oi the Communist Osugi, for which he held General Fukuda blameable.
After firing one shot, which struck General Fukuda on the shoulder, his assailant was seized just as he was about to fire a second shot. The wound was severe and required medical treatment, Wada and seven other Socialists were arrested.—Reuter.
