Motta (Switzerland) to the Presidency hod the immediate effect of bestirring the delegates. _ Ho has a strong personality, and is a direct and forceful speaker and an experienced parliamentarian. MR MACDONALD LEAVES. KEEN SUPPORTER OF LEAGUE, LONDON, September 2. (Received September 3, at 11 a.m.) Mr Ramsay MacDonald has departed for Geneva. Conversing with pressmen on the railway platform, he said he felt very keenly the tremendous importance of the League. He remarked that be was not going to Geneva to make speeches, although he would have something to say. He was trying by his visit to Geneva to demonstrate his confidence in the power of the League to do good work, life was most anxious that every nation should send the strongest delegation, possible. (Received September 3, at 11 a.m.) The National Union of Manufacturers has petitioned Parliament against the granting of a loan of £40,000,C00 to Germany. Interviewed, Mr Cheeseman (secretary of the union), suggested that some of the dominions were being reluctantly forced to ban the importation of British goods in order to prevent Germany from benefiting from the preference granted to the Mother Country by dumping German goods in England, which found their way to the dominions. For example, huge quantities of German leather were being imported to Britain and the dominions. These dominions felt that they could not give preference to boots from England, as it would be giving preference to German leather.—Reuter. SIX VICE-PRESIDENTS, GENEVA, September 2.
