FIGHTING IN MOROCCO
SPANIARDS HARD PRESSED, Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. MADRID, September 2. (Received September 3, at 10.30 a.m.) The seriousness of the position in Morocco is emphasised in an official communique describing heavy fighting consequent on persistent and violent attacks on the Spanish communications in the western zone. It says that great forces must be employed; consequently eight battalions are being dispatched immediately from Spain. The communique adds; “ The situation calls for great coolness and firmness, and the Directory feels compelled more than over to exercise all its authority in both Spain and Morocco.”—Reuter. GIBRALTAR, September 2. (Received September 3, at 10.30 a.m.) The gunfire in Morocco is audible in Tangier and Gibraltar. Tribesmen in the vicinity of Tangier, joining in, burned the Tangier-Tetuan mail car. The road from Tetuan to Tangier is closed.—Reuter.
