NORTH-EAST VALLEY SCHOOL

MEETING OP COMMITTEE.

The monthly meeting of tho North-east Valley School Committee was hold last evening, Mr J. Elliot in the chair. Before tho minutes were read Mr Mhot referred to tho sever© illness of tile chairman of the committee (Mr J. J. Bards- - and it was decided that a letter of sympathy be sent him in his trouble, and wishing him a speedy recovery. The resignation of Mr J. M. Alien as first nosistant was received with regret, and the secretary was instructed to write him regretting his break-down in health. A letter was received from the secretary of the North-east Valley Baptist Tennis Glub, enclosing a donation of 21® towards the school band fund, and asking for the continued use of the school ground. It was decided to qrant this. With reference to the application of tho Anglican Harriers for tho_ use of some portion of tho school buildings next Satday, it was decided that, on account of the alterations going on at tho school, only tho use of the playground could ha offered tho dub.

Mr Begg reported that at the last meeting of the Ex-pupils’ Association it had been decided to hold a concert in aid of the school prize fund, and Mr Jones (the head master) had offered to provide half of tho programme with items by the school children.

The wife of a former committeeman, Mr J. Carman, having died recently, it was decided that a letter of sympathy be sent him, this motion being carried by members standing. Mr Laing and Mr Bcgg reported having visited the school before the vacation, finding everything satisfactory. Now that alterations are being made at the school two dosses will have to be accommodated elsewhere, but Mr Jones has arrangements well in hand, and work will bo carried on as usual when the school reopens next Tuesday. The Presbyterian Boys’ Bible Class has been using the gymnasium one night a week during the winter, but, as this is now required to accommodate two standards, the secretary was instructed to write asking them to discontinue the use of this building in the meantime.
